The Across Latitudes and Cultures – Bus Rapid Transit (ALC-BRT) Centre of Excellence for Bus Rapid Transit development is conducting a survey among transport professionals to understand the disconnect between the industry’s needs in technical skills and the actual skills of the employees entering this field.

The Centre of Excellence, based in Santiago, Chile, was established in May 2010 as a consortium between Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Technical University of Lisbon, The University of Sydney and EMBARQ (the producer of this blog). It is financed by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF). The goal of the CoE is to develop a framework for the planning, designing, financing, implementation and operations of BRT in different urban areas while providing guidelines to decision makers on “when and how BRT projects can effectively enhance mobility and meet accessibility needs.”

As part of this work, ALC is conducting two surveys to gather information on effective educational methods in BRT training. The goal for ALC-BRT is to identify global educational and training opportunities in the BRT sector. The following two surveys will provide support for assessing the educational gaps between the industry’s needs and the employees’ and students’ actual competencies.

This questionnaire is directed at stakeholders within the BRT industry (manufacturers, operators, consultants, etc.)

This other questionnaire is directed at educational institutions offering BRT-related training (transport engineering, urban planning, economics, social sciences, etc.)

Each survey takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Help ALC-BRT by taking the survey relevant to your field, and share the links with your network!
